Modeled by Lexi Miles
I THINK WE CAN all empathize with each other about the lack of feeling a lot of things this year. It's been hard! There have been multiple times of feeling defeated, lackluster, non-creative, etc. Covid sure has messed up a lot of plans, especially for us here at Deitra. I had originally planned to do this photo shoot back in March. Our model was contacted, along with our co-collaborator. Plans were a go. Then, more started happening with this virus, and state shutdowns soon followed. Thankfully, with safety precautions in place, we felt it was good timing to reconvene this fall.

For this shoot, I was inspired by that ever lovely, carefree, boho vibe. Andrea, of A Petersburg Design, creates beautiful macrame pieces that I wanted to showcase and work with. Most of her work involves home decor from wall pieces to tree ornaments, but she also does accessories. Andrea created this fun head band for us that can be changed to a necklace choker, or even to a multi-wrapped bracelet or anklet. She also created the beautiful earrings you see pictured below. All of these, and that cute wall hanging in the background, can be found at a local pop up shop, The Local Bevy, off of Pickwick & Cherry in Springfield, Missouri, as well as through her Instagram and Facebook Page.
When creating hair for our model, Lexi, I wanted to keep that carefree look with beach waves and braids. We started by using Healthy SexyHair So Touchable spray for heat protection and workable hair. The half up / half down look consisted of a couple of mini topsy ponytails, going into fishtail braids using Healthy SexyHair Styling Paste for soft control. Then, gently twisting most of each side profiles to attach into those braids, covering any elastic bands or the ties from the head band. For the updo, I took the remaining hair, using SexyHair Artistry Pro Remodel Dry Shampoo, to rope twist and pin as desired, wrapping along with the fishtail braids. Then for makeup, I used Bare Minerals Bare Pro foundation, Too Faced Peach pallette for eyes, cheeks, and contouring and Besamé Cosmetics for lips.
Our location shoot was held at Lightbox Studios in Springfield. I've had my eye on them for quite some time on Instagram. They have such a beautiful venue for creatives to go, with an array of options from big to small photo shoots and a large prop closet in case anything extra is needed or wanted. DM
*All safety precautions were taken by wearing masks and social distancing, when the model was not masked during photos.
